Something Old, Something New

Bridal Bouquet
Bridal Bouquet
I have to apologize for the lack of posting over the last 6 months.  We have been so busy planning and preparing for 2 weddings this year, I'm waiting for my head to pop off and spin around on the floor.

Weddings are a big affair for any family. There is so much to be done that it's no wonder the stress of it all puts the couple on edge.  In my family preparing for a wedding is a generational affair.  It's not left up to only the bride and her mother to prepare and plan everything, they have the backing of sisters, aunties, and cousins as well as the groom's mother, sisters, aunties, and cousins.  See, a wedding to us means the joining of not only the couple but 2 families.  The preparations and planning is all about getting to know each other and making the sure the bride and groom get what they want AND stay within budget.

My niece got married last month (it almost didn't happen but that's a post for another time). She and her fiance didn't want anything fancy and they aren't religious. They had a courthouse wedding with a luncheon at my sister's place. Just because it was a small affair didn't mean it couldn't be beautiful. There was so much negativity and, not just mean, but cruel comments made about it that my mom and I had had enough.  So we invited the groom's mom to join us and the bride, my mom, sister, and myself met up a couple of times beforehand to help her pick out a dress and flowers, then make the bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages and a couple of table decorations.  My brother-in-law (her step-dad) rented a tent for the back yard.  We all pitched in making hot turkey, baked beans, pasta salads, fruit salad, and dessert bars.  She even had a small wedding cake with the bride and groom cake topper.  It was simple and beautiful, exactly what they wanted.

The Debbie Downers and Negative Nancys can kiss my sorry...I'll behave.
