You know you're a glutton for punishment when you tried something once before and nearly went "admit-to-an-asylum" crazy trying to accomplish it. Yep! Here I am again, participating in NaBloPoMo. For those of you who do not know what NaBloPoMo is, go visit those other absolutely insane people over at BlogHer who are doing the same thing. Instead of doing this all by my lonesome...I've also enlisted the support of the fine folks at YeahWrite.
Since I decided at the last minute to join in the (insert sarcasm here) fun, I thought I'd use the BlogHer writing prompt for today.
How to Spend a million dollars in a day
To add insult to my injury, I added a personal caveat. I could only spend money on something that would benefit someone else.
Believe me...it's not as easy as you think but I kept my spending ideas to what I hold near and dear to my heart.
$375,000 $50,000 donations to the following organizations that have won my heart and an annual donation from me already:
Fisher House Foundation - Military families
Homes for our Troops - Wounded Veterans
Appalachian Bear Rescue - Animal Welfare
Oxfam America - Poverty & Injustice
Humane Society - Animal Welfare
Earthjustice - Environment
$75,000 So here's where I ran into a sticky wicket. Honestly...it's damn hard trying to spend a million dollars in a day on myself let alone on others! What to do. What to do.
My grammy is 95 years old...saying she's got one foot in the grave and one on a banana peel isn't too far off the mark (don't tell her I said that!). I'd spend the remainder of the $1,000,000 on a family reunion. I'd reserve a hotel in a central location, invite the whole fam-damn-ily, go get my grammy and we'd "partay" an entire weekend away. Okay...maybe not...but we'd sure give it the ole college try. And yes, this one is a little selfish, because to see the happiness on my grammy's face...well you get the picture.
