While I drink my first cup of coffee and prepare for another busy, busy day in the office, I thought I'd share some of the decorating ideas I got while skimming through Pinterest. Yes, I'm addicted. The creativity that is shared through this wonderful site makes me downright giddy. It's amazing!
For those of you who don't know what Pinterest does or even is, it's a site that allows people to share their creative findings or their own creative ideas. Someone shares a recipe, DIY, Make Your Own, decorating, or party idea and then someone else on Pinterest, "repins" or re-shares the idea and then someone else sees it and "repins" it, and so on. I do believe in giving credit where credit is due so whenever I can, I search for the original source. Sometimes it takes me a little time but I'm like a dog with a bone...I'll do my darnedest to find it.

For those of you who don't know me, I went through what some would call a minimalist stage which directly coincided with having two young boys and a puppy in the house. Nothing on the walls, breakables packed away for another day, second hand furniture, you name it. I don't even have our engagement or wedding photos out. And pictures of loved ones out for people to look at (my husband calls them "dead walls", you know, the pictures of loved who have passed on beautifully displayed in gorgeous frames as decoration on a wall) are packed away too. Not in my house, until now.
As I was browsing through Pinterest, I found a very unique and functional way to display photos. They don't have to be in frames and the pictures can be changed whenever I want. Yes, I'm fickle...I like changing things up all the time, so this is the perfect solution.
The directions can be found at Fresh Home Ideas (along with a great many other wonderful ideas). I'm planning on doing one for 4"x6" photos and one for 5"x7" portraits. I can then put our engagement and wedding photos in beautiful frames above the picture rails. It will allow me to change things around, add photos depending on the season, and keep things fresh and exciting.

My second inspiration is soooo simple and again, I can change it up depending on the season but with me it'll be more likely, on a whim.
You can find the directions on Becoming Martha.

I love nature and whenever I can, I try to incorporate a little nature into my home. Live plants I tend to kill unless they are thriving outside where Mother Nature waters them regularly. And my vegetable garden always seems to grow wildly without question. If it's a house plant...forget it, it'll be dead in a week. What's a girl going to do? Simple...
I found this on Apartment Therapy which led me to Moss Eclectic. It's a simple yet wonderful way to bring a little nature into my office.
Lofty Aspirations...All the furniture has been rearranged or disassembled depending on what it needs. So I have a little desk, computer and printer. That's about it. The last 2 walls have their first coat of paint. Tomorrow they'll get the second coat. All of the QB's have been sanded and the primer has been started. My husband doesn't like to paint the QB's...too many dang corners. Not to mention, I'm a little picky about drips and runs.
He's also not too keen on my painting the desk. He'll get used to it. It's in desperate need of a coat of paint...or 6. Since it's particle board covered with laminate, I had to go searching the good ole internet to find out the best way to refinish it. I didn't want to have to buy a new one.
HGTV.com had some good directions for laminate counter tops so I started there and then talked to the guys at the local hardware store. There was a gentleman who overheard my asking questions (okay, more like picking the clerk's brain) that does kitchen remodeling for a living and started asking me questions about what I was doing. So I told him. He gave me a couple of additional pointers so I think I'm ready for this little excursion into the unknown.
Wish me luck...tomorrow is another busy, busy day.
I am very excited. In an earlier post, I had bemoaned the fact the fabric samples I received were much darker than the photos online, I spent about 6 hours over the last week and another 3 hours tonight looking for something that would fit into my original color scheme. Tonight, I found it. It's a little brighter than I originally planned but I truly like the vibrancy against the muted brown and green I had picked for the walls. With the solid blue and yellow fabrics I chose, I think this will give the room the punch of color I was hoping for.
After two unproductive days (yesterday's migraine and today's shopping excursion), this weekend is going to be very busy. My husband is all ready planning on setting up an assembly line to sand, prime, and paint all of the remaining components that need to come into the room. While that is going on, tomorrow I will rearrange the room to paint the last of the walls and ceiling, then help him with the assembly line. In between, we'll do laundry, make meals and take Mollie Bollie for her scheduled walks.
I know, I know, lofty aspirations. You have to start somewhere and even if we get half of it done we'll have made up for the last 2 days and be back on track.
I'm definitely feeling better now that I have the fabric to make the curtains, fabric cubes, and cushion. Yay!
