I used to have classes in my studio every Friday night. I miss it. A bunch of gals would come over and we'd paint, craft, talk, laugh, and sometimes cry. We'd drink crazy tea (Tea for Wisdom by Republic of Tea) and laugh even more.
Unfortunately, it got to be too much. Some students never paid their class or supply fees. Some students would arrive late and expect me to stay up until all hours so they could have their 3 hours of class time. Some would bring their computers or homework and expect that they didn't have to pay their class fee. When they got loud, I would remind them that my husband and son were trying to sleep right above us. That lasted about 10 minutes and I'd have to remind them again.
After several heated arguments with my husband and a few snide comments from my sons, I realized that it was time to move on or I should say, up. I still plan on having classes, but on my terms and with strict enforcement of the rules. I think I'll be going to a seminar style class once a month with a set agenda. Class and supply fees are to be paid in full in advance. If you're late, the studio still closes at the regular time. No homework and the only computer allowed will be my own. And the day and time will change so it doesn't interfere with my family's ability to sleep. I want it to be a place where the gals can come, learn something new, and share their joys and sorrows. But most of all, I want it to be a place where it's safe to make mistakes and LAUGH.
I started this blog as a "replacement" for the camaraderie I used to share with the "pottery ladies". I want it to become an outlet for sharing ideas and learning new things. Most of all, I want it to be a place where we can make mistakes and LAUGH.
